Kate’s Pick: Top 4 Fantasy/Action TV Shows

April showers bring May Flowers, as well as new TV shows. New seasons, or new shows entirely, spring is the time to settle in at home after dinner, prepared to watch a new episode. But how to keep track of the hundreds of options offered? To make navigating the cable networks easier, here is a short list of the most intriguing fantasy/action TV shows in my opinion, in no particular order.

1. The Walking Dead

Not for the faint of heart, The Walking Dead brings a refreshing element to the zombie apocalypse idea. Based on the comic books by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, The Walking Dead has dominated the television world. AMC produced, it has become the most watched TV show. It follows the story of a Father and Son, Rick and Carl Grimes. Rick awakens from a coma and is thrust into a decaying world where zombies roam in search of flesh. Fight the dead. Fear the living.

2. Sherlock

A modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this BBC created show has raked in countless prestigious awards for its phenomenal acting, cinematography, and writing. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Holmes and Watson, each episode is 90 minutes of heart palpitating, brain working, mystery solving. Every episode adapts a new story by Conan Doyle using new technology and the occasional plot twist. Definitely a thrilling TV show, and is completely worth the 2 year hiatus.

3. Game of Thrones

An adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, it has quickly become one of the most popular TV shows ever. With a complicated and thrilling plot, beautiful theme song, and sensational production, Game of Thrones has attracted an audience of all ages. Excluding children, considering the amount of graphic sex. Set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, three main plots interweave, with compelling characters. The first plot line covers the ruthless battle for the Iron Throne by several noble houses. The second chronicles the dangerous Northern creatures that will emerge when winter arrives, the third displays the determined battle for the Iron Throne by the last Targaryen. You win or you die.

4. Supernatural

A TV show that has attracted an audience of all ages, Supernatural continues to thrill its viewers with new plots twists and even more compelling characters. Created by Eric Kripke, the show has been broadcast since 2005 on The CW’s lineup. This TV show follows two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelecki), who battle the things that go bump in the night. But with a developing plot, Angels and Demons, Greek Gods, and Lucifer are becoming prominent characters. Going on its tenth season, Supernatural includes humour, which is the icing on the cake of this remarkable fantasy/action TV show.
