Pantone has released the 2014 color of the year and it is “Radiant Orchid”. How beautiful does that name sound? It is a gorgeous color that is soft and feminine and goes with every skin tone! This is the description on the pantone.com:
“Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health”
Perfect description of what we all need this year! Pantone also released the colors of spring 2014 and they are all very fun, light and feminine colours. You can tell that all the colours go well with each other so you can definitely use this palette to mix and match different hues (including radiant orchid) together and find inspiration for your spring looks!
This hauntingly beautiful color has already made its debut through countless clothing items, jewellery and even the makeup industry.
So many celebrities donned this colour on their lips, eyes, cheeks, and clothes. I personally have a love-hate relationship with eye shadows, however I think radiant orchid looks so beautiful and classy on your eyelids, especially since there are so many shades of it that you can experiment with. So, don’t go crazy with the extra bright shades because you don’t want to look like Barney the dinosaur.
The soft application of this eye shadow like Selena’s is so flattering and beautiful. Scarlett’s slightly more complex (since it includes 3-4 shades of R.O) eye look; so much femininity and elegance! Paired with a nude lip, the whole look is perfect and draws the attention straight to your eyes.
Now let’s discuss lips! Believe it or not, Radiant Orchid lips can actually be a success. Just like the eyes, you have to experiment with different shades to figure out which one suits you best. Some shades look great on both light and dark skin tones (darker shades, with purple undertones) while others only suit light/dark skin tones, or possibly…neither.
Emmy (left) and Lupita (right) are both wearing radiant orchid lip colours that are pretty much the same, though Emmy’s has a pinker undertone. Still, both colours suit them perfectly and are a great way to make a statement!
A number of brands have used this colour in their products. Sephora is working on a Radiant Orchid collection in collaboration with pantone, featuring products for your eyes, lips, cheeks and nails. The collection is not out yet, but you can head over to their website and enter your email to be notified about its release. (http://www.sephora.com/sephora-pantone-universe). MAC and NARS have a stunning collection of radiant orchid products you should definitely invest in.
Radiant Orchid has made its way on the runways since New York fashion week and some of the looks are really beautiful (Yes, some. We all know fashion weeks are full of ugly surprises). Don’t hesitate to include this color in your wardrobe and be a part of this trend! The beauty about this colour is how versatile all its shades are and how you can match each shade with almost every colour and come up with stylish and new combinations.
Radiant Orchid is the ideal colour of the year because it exudes confidence and comfort; an attitude we want to hold on to throughout all the seasons of 2014. It is fresh, fancy and fun– the perfect balance of all the different tastes and styles. Don’t forget to keep pastels in mind while selecting your spring looks and just have fun finding your perfect Radiant O shade!
