Best Plane Thrillers of the 2000s

Do you ever crave a thrill? Do you yearn for the rush of adrenaline, without putting yourself in real fear?

In light of Liam Neeson’s most recent film Non-Stop, I’ve compiled a list of the best plane thrillers. What’s more exciting than action-packed chase scenes at thirty thousand feet in the air?

5. Non-Stop (2014)

Watch this if: you’re a fan of Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore.

Everyone loved Neeson in Taken and Taken 2. He now stars in his newest film, Non-Stop. Neeson boards his flight and begins to receive anonymous text messages, threatening for $150 million dollars. For every 20 minutes Neeson doesn’t prepare the money, a passenger on the plane dies. Things take a turn as Neeson takes things under his control to uncover the identity of the texter. How far will Neeson go to protect the passengers and uncover the mystery?

4. Snakes on a Plane (2006)

Watch this if: you’re a fan of snakes and Samuel Jackson’s humour.

You guessed it, this movie is about snakes on a plane. Sean is a witness to a murder done by the powerful Eddie Kim – and now, Eddie is out to get him. An FBI agent, Neville Flynn (Samuel Jackson) steps up to the position in power and fights to save every life on the plane.

3. Quarantine 2: Terminal (2011)

Watch this if: you’re a fan of zombies.

In Quarantine 2, it’s no stroll in the park – we are faced with sprinting zombies. A plane experiences a viral outbreak, and they are forced to make an emergency landing. A small group of survivors are quarantined to a cargo area, where they must work as a team to keep each other alive. Unfortunately, things fall apart as the survivors begin to panic and the virus splits the group.

2. Red Eye (2005)

Watch this if: you’re a fan of Rachel McAdams or Cillian Murphy and love a good chase scene.

Rachel McAdams plays Lisa, a hotel owner on a flight to Miami, Florida. She finds herself sucked into a terrorist plan, threatening the death of her father if she does not cooperate. The plan involves assassinating her most valuable hotel client, who happens to be a government official. Lisa has to decide between whose life to save. Can she protect both?

1. Flightplan (2005)

Watch this if: you’re a fan of Jodi Foster and psychological thrillers.

Every thrill-seeker and mystery hunter is guaranteed to love this film. On a seemingly relaxing flight home from Berlin to America, Kylie Pratt takes her daughter on her first plane ride, assuring her that everything will be okay. Things do not go as planned when Kylie wakes up from a nap and finds her daughter missing. Not just that, but no one on the plane admits that they ever saw that her daughter board the flight.

One question fuels the entire movie: Is Jodi trapped in her imagination or does she really have a daughter gone missing?
